1/26/2011 · the 06 taurus only had one engine available that was the vulcan … as for duratec compared to vulcan . i would say the vulcan is pretty bullet proof but has a few key issues with it (cam syncro, cooling system corrosion, etc.) the engine is a bit lower on power but get a bit better mileage than the duratec . the Duratec is also a good engine though, plenty of power and they can go for a very long time with regular maintenance. though the duratec .
12/17/2005 · At this point, both the Vulcan and Duratec are considered to be very reliable, so that’s not an issue. The only important difference between the two, is that you’re used to the power of the Duratec . I’m inclined to believe you’d be dissatisfied with the weaker Vulcan . 6/3/2008 · Favorite Answer. After the body code of P53 (Taurus SE) is the engine code. U is for the 12 valve Vulcan engine. S is for the 24 valve Duratec engine family. You have the 3.0 Vulcan 12 valve push rod engine. Your car is also a 2004 that was built in Chicago, IL It was built on 11/17/2003 and delivered on 12/3/2003.

11/13/2006 · I haven’t heard of anyone mating the M50D with the Duratec – However the Taurus Duratec does use a FWD AX4N/S transmission that shares the same bellhousing pattern with the Vulcan 3.0L. Without looking at both it would be anyone’s guess if it would work.
12/2/2008 · Your Ranger has the Vulcan engine in it. They never put the Duratec in the Ranger. They never put the Duratec in the Ranger. Also it appears you’ve left at least one digit out of the VIN you posted (it only has 16 digits.. should be 17), but if the 10th digit is U then you have the gas-only version of the Vulcan 3.0 which can only run up to E10 (10% ethanol).

I can see the Taurus’s Engine code is U but it doesn’t tell me if it’s Vulcan or Duratec and also no mention of DOHC versus OHV engine.
